WATCHUNG — The Watchung Arts Center continues the fourth season of its award-winning concert series called ‘Powerful Women of Song’ by presenting the pop-folk trio, Lucky 13, on Saturday, November 7, at the Watchung Arts Center at 18 Stirling Road in Watchung. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $21 online and $23 at the door.

Tickets can be purchased online by going to lucky13.eventbrite.com.

Lucky 13 unites the talents of Cathy Kreger, Marci Geller & Susan DeVita. The trio was formed after the three singer-songwriters appeared on a compilation CD of the same name released by Sonic Underground. Response to their harmonies and musical chemistry inspired them to officially form a band in July of 2008.

Among their recent credits, they have performed on WFUV, Fox Morning Show and had a New York Times feature article. They have opened for Jack Hardy, KJ Denhert, Vance Gilbert, and sung backup vocals for Jay Mankita. Venues they have played include The Towne Crier, New Moon Coffeehouse, Chapin Rainbow Theater, Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater and The Living Room and numerous House Concert series. With eclectic styles and unique voices, together their tight harmonies and engaging life stories are garnering them fans across the country.

“Their chemistry is really kind of magical,” said John Platt of WFUV.

The Powerful Women of Song Series is presented by Ahrre Maros, owner of Ahrre’s Coffee Roastery in Westfield and host of the award winning Coffee With Conscience Concert Series in Westfield.

The Powerful Women of Song Series is an nine-concert series taking place on the first Saturday night of each month from October through June. This series honors and features strong and powerful female singer/songwriters from around the country who have that special ability to express their thoughts, feelings and passions through musical composition. This series is dedicated to the power that music has in our lives to touch and move us deeply, to nurture and inspire us, and thereby invoke change.

The Season will continue with South Carolina based folk duo, Wishing Chair, on December 5, Florida’s sweetheart, Mindy Simmons, on January 9, the zany Texan, Idgy Vaughn, on February 6, the incomparable powerhouse of song, Toshi Reagon, on March 6, Carsie Blanton & Victoria Vox on April 3, Baltimore-based soul sister, Lea, on May 1 and the legendary Catie Curtis on June 5.

An ode to IMAC from Lucky 13

Hello Friends,

We recently received the sad news that the wonderful IMAC Theater of Huntington has closed it's doors for good. We will be on News 12 Tuesday, June 23rd from 5pm until 11pm, talking about our affinity for IMAC and how much they will be missed.

On brighter notes (and this incessant rain doesn't make "bright" very easy these days!), we have 2 shows this week in Huntington:

Friday, June 26, Pagan Place House Concert-in South Huntington. This is a great new house concert series run by Erin Steinberg. Show starts at 7pm and reservations can be made at: mserin [AT] optonline.net

Sunday, June 28, Chapin Rainbow Stage at Huntington Heckscher Park at 8pm (Opening for Carrie Rodriguez!!!!)-If you've never been, grab your picnic blanket or lawn chair and come see a concert at one of LI's premier outdoor venues.

We are so excited to announce our new booking agent Diane Malenfant who has been hard at work booking us all over the place! Check out the tour page for up-to-the-minute tour dates!

Our mini-tour with the incredible Jude Johnstone is shaping up nicely. Jude is an award winning songwriter who's songs have been covered by everyone from Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks and more. We're so honored to be working with her!

Also, did you know you can update your subscription with us so that we can target mailings based on your location? We can also send text messages when a surprise appearance or performance pops up. Just click the "Update Your Information" all the way down at the bottom of this email.

Lastly, we want to send out lots of love and gratitude to Michael Rothbard, Kathie Bodily and the entire IMAC Staff for their years of passion and support for the arts.

Lots of love, sunshine and Robin's,

l13-name2

3 Women • 3 Lives • 13 Stories
Lucky 13 back at the Buttonwood Tree creating a frenzy wherever they go....
Middletown, CT…. Friday, September 11, 2009... What prompted near hysteria laden response to three women musicians in their 40’s forming a band? Perhaps it is the remarkable way three completely different voices blend into rich, luscious harmonies? Or perhaps it’s their diverse writing styles that traverse ballsy blues, to sensual ballads, to close-to-the-bone emotional rawness? By catching their performance at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, on Friday, September 11 at 8:00PM, you might get some insight into this mystery.

The trio formed a little over a year ago in July 2008 after they each appeared on the same compilation CD released by Sonic Underground. “Sometimes the obvious can be staring you right in the face,” explains Geller. “We kept having to explain that the CD was named Lucky 13 and that we were just the featured artists.” “It became really confusing and we realized we were getting such a great response every time we performed together, why not follow the signs and become a group?”

In the short time the trio has been together, Lucky 13 has garnered airplay and in-studios at radio stations across the Northeast including: WFUV, WSHU, WPKN, WUSB, WOR, WHUD, WLIU to name a few. They were a featured performer on the Fox Morning Show, WLNY TV and a feature article in the New York Times sang their praises.

Their chemistry is really kind of magical,” -John Platt, WFUV 90.7 FM

The trio has plans to go back into the studio and record their next CD, which was written almost entirely while on the road together. Sparks of interest from national distributors and TV shows have kept the energy flowing for this remarkable trio. If you haven’t heard of Lucky 13 yet, strap in, these ladies will steal your heart and leave you humming their melodies as they travel to the next town.

The Buttonwood Tree is located at 605 Main St., Middletown, CT 06457. For more information you can contact the Buttonwood at: 860.347.4957, www.Buttonwood.org or at www.Lucky13.fm

Tour announced with Jude Johnstone & Lucky 13. http://ping.fm/wUrCm

Music & Lyrics Tour; How Facebook brought together award winning west coast songwriter Jude Johnstone and east coast acoustic trio Lucky 13.

New York, NY-June 1, 2009----Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Jude Johnstone’s last appearance in the New York area was her national television debut on CBS’s “The Saturday Early Show” in March 2006. Johnstone returns to the area for the Music & Lyrics Tour with her first area appearance on July 12 at Towne Crier, Pawling, New York. Johnstone will share the bill on all her shows with the exceptionally talented trio Lucky 13.

While you may not know the name Jude Johnstone, chances are you’ve already heard her songs. A stellar list of artists have covered

Johnstone’s songs including Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Bette Midler, Trisha Yearwood, Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris. Johnstone’s songs have been used in television shows “Army Wives,” “Lie To Me,” and in Showtime’s new series “Nurse Jackie.” Johnstone has received rave reviews for her reflective, intelligent songwriting delivered in her passionate, soulful voice.

“Jude is one of the most soulful, deep singer-songwriters I know.” Bonnie Raitt

“Songs rarely sound so potent as when they are delivered by the songwriter who penned them…Johnstone breathes life into her own songs with her intimate vocal style and finely crafted compositions.” Billboard Magazine

Perhaps it was fate that prompted Johnstone to randomly contact east coast singer/songwriter and Lucky 13 band member Marci Geller on the popular social network Facebook. The two formed an instant friendship and through Facebook messaging and emails, they started toying with the idea of a tour.

“I was completely taken aback when I saw that Jude had “friended” me on FB (Facebook), exclaims Geller. I had been a fan of hers for years and hearing from her was extremely validating. Geller who is one of the founding members of the acoustic trio Lucky 13, which includes Cathy Kreger and Susan Devita, is also co-owner of Sonic Underground, a NY based independent label.

Their chemistry is really kind of magical,” -John Platt, WFUV 90.7 FM

“It’s about leaving an audience with something they remember, something that changes them,” says Johnstone. The Music & Lyrics tour featuring Jude Johnstone and Lucky 13 will wind up and down the Northeast offering audiences a rare chance to catch Johnstone doing exactly that.

In order to stream-line some of the bazillion tasks I do, I just subscribed to ping to see if I can save myself some work. No, this is not a commercial for ping;-) And yes, I will hopefully have something more interesting to say in the near future!

Now..work, work, work!
